What Not to Miss in Munich? Beer and Pork Knuckle. Lots of Them.

Lets start with the beer. I'm sure everyone already knows this but I can't help echoing it. Munich equals excellent beer. A trip to Munich without having their Bavarian beer, loads of it, is a trip wasted. The truth is I've never been that into beer to start with. I used to look at friends who beam with contentment after taking a swig or two of beer and couldn't even begin comprehend their pleasure. I guess you can call me a late bloomer. Things only changed when a certain friend heavily influenced me with his unbelievable enthusiasm and passion for beer when I was in Hong Kong for an internship. I mean, this is one guy who really loves his beer! I'm still no alcoholic, but now, if I take a swig or two of ice cold beer, I can actually feel the edges of my mouth curve into a contented smile that seems to mirror those I've seen on my friends. I guess I finally get it.

Schwarzwald and the Best Black Forest Cake Ever

Impossibly blue skies, luscious grass, quaint houses and never-ending trees. Mostly, the black forest (Schwarzwald) was about fresh air and storybook scenery. We stayed at Freiburg, the main tourist entry point to the Black Forest, which was a small but bustling University town. The farmers' market at the Münsterplatz (town square) that takes place everyday except Sunday induced in me serious envy - if only I had access to farmer markets where I live in Germany! I've always dreamt of making rhubarb pies in rhubarb season, or fitting the season's best white asparagus into the dinner menu, things like that. I'm still dreaming. Anyway, if you need a snack, there are stalls selling grilled german sausages at the market too. They always smell amazing. And if you want to visit the Freiburg Minster (Cathedral of Freiburg), well, you can't miss it once you're at the Münsterplatz. There's shopping to be done along the cobblestone streets, and little canals you'll spot (people used to fight fires with these in medieval days!). We took a train down to Lake Titisee, which was actually frozen. Here, you can visit the multitude of stores selling everything from Black Forest Ham to Cuckoo Clocks to random souvenirs. We followed a sign pointing towards "Cafe Alpenblick" into the Black Forest, and was rewarded with spectacular views. The third last photo was one of those views you actually got to enjoy with a slice of cake and some tea. Absolutely amazing. Cafe Alpenblick was supposed to serve very good cakes, but I thought they were just okay. The views make up for everything though, really.

Amazing and Affordable Food in Berlin

Berlin was by far the most vibrant city I've visited and I absolutely loved it. The history was amazing and so was the food, which I can't wait to share. If there's only one piece of advice you should know, forget about the Currywurst (simply grilled sausages doused in tomato sauce with a sprinkle of curry powder) - once is enough, there are too many things more worth trying. One last thing before I begin on the list, definitely check out Dolores if you're craving for great Burritos - it's tasty, decidedly healthy, and inexpensive to boot. If my camera battery didn't go flat, it'd be on the list without a doubt.
