It's been so unusually cold these days and all I want to do is curl up in bed with a cuppa. But since I have yet to bring home a coffee machine, Papa Palheta became the obvious choice instead.

There is only one thing on the menu - coffee. No sandwiches, cakes or pastries, just good, honest coffee. No soy milk either, only full cream milk and full attention to quality and detail. Currently, the brew is a house blend of Ethiopia, Guatemala and Brazil beans roasted in house. In fact, I'll wager you can whiff the aroma even before spotting Papa Palheta. It's awesome.

Things really do work differently over here. Each cuppa carries no price tag and relies solely on a tipping mechanism. It's approximately 5 per cuppa give or take depending on how much you enjoyed your coffee. Really bold move from the team!

We scored the couch after ten minutes - I whiled the rest of the time away planning a highly anticipated grad trip while M lost himself in a book. If only everyday was this perfect...

Also, isn't the al fresco area wonderful? Almost feels like one of the hidden cafes along Prague's cobbled streets. The coffee itself was also one of a kind, like everything else here at Papa Palheta, and had a unique after taste. It tasted great even without sugar and went down very smooth. In fact, an American tourist loved it so much he bought 8 bags of coffee to bring home. That's 2 kilos of coffee beans! If you prefer to have some snacks alongside your coffee, head over to Loysel's Toy and Hummerstons - they serve Papa Palheta coffee alongside a decent selection of sandwiches and baked goods.
