Starter Size of Ostendaise - Fish Stock, Lobster Bisque, Shrimp, Mushroom, $18.50
Mussels and beer is a wicked combination. Add to that free flow fries and a fantastic conversation about books, travel and coffee, and you have a recipe for a good time. I loved the Ostendaise that T had, which tasted like a lobster bisque (albeit watered down for the mussels) with complexity and strong crustacean notes. The mussels aren't exactly huge, but they're definitely plump and juicy!
Starter Size of Vin Blanc - White Wine, Butter, Celery, Onion, Parsley, $18.50
I had the Vin Blanc, the white wine concoction, which worked really well with the mussels too. The broth tasted quite strongly of wine if you drink it alone, but the mussels tasted perfect. I loved dunking the fries into the broth! Oh and I loved that they provided Japanese mayo with the fries. A beer feels necessary here (happy hour is till 8pm everyday). Since the fries are free flow with every order of mussels, even a starter portion is quite enough to fill you up. If you're feeling ravenous, however, or if you're just a big fan of mussels, the mains portion are available at $38.50.

Took this before dinner. Isn't the view lovely? Happy 2011!

On Sunday, we went for a relaxing late lunch after a very heavy 12 days. We sat outside and, at first, the service was OK, but when we had finished our mains we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, and said, yes.
ReplyDeleteWe waited and waited and waited to the accompaniment of loud raucous laughter from inside the restaurant; no one came. Then we managed to attract the attention of a lone waiter, who was putting menus out on the tables. He came over and we asked for the dessert menu and he gave us one, I asked for another, and he reluctantly gave it and went off to the others inside. We waited and waited and waited and eventually grabbed another lone waiter and gave our order. Then we waited and waited and waited and waited, while the loud laughter came from inside. I then cancelled the order and immediately we received our puddings. I then told them I would not pay half the service charge as the service was atrocious; the supervisor then came out and cancelled the whole service charge and apologised; then a very aggressive and very rude waiter came out and tried to blame us for the delay. We told him, in no uncertain manner, to go away and not be so rude and unpleasant. The supervisor then appeared again and apologised profusely again, and we left absolutely determined never to go to one of their restaurants ever again, at RQ, or anywhere else. The real BS improve one's digestion, the experience at BS, RQ, certainly did not. If you are in need of a relaxing meal, you may be well advised to go somewhere else and relax.
Hi anon, I'm not sure this is the best place for Brussels Sprouts to receive your feedback. You should direct it to them, or they will never know what they're doing wrong.
