The Book Café
The Book Café is exactly the kind of café I've been dreaming of since coming back from Europe. A place with a relaxed vibe, cozy couches, and a location just obscure enough to not be plagued with crazy crowds - the perfect environment to enjoy a good book or while time away on your laptop.
Café Latte, $5.50, Hot Chocolate, $5.95
I had a Café Latte while M went for a Hot Chocolate. They were both good. These days, I seem to be turning into a caffeine addict. It was a simple but splendid day just chilling out with M, reading Ian McEwan's Atonement, and keeping up with my favourite blogs and websites. I didn't browse through the shelves of books available, but I spotted a few lonely planet guides. Planning a trip here wouldn't be a bad idea at all! Oh yes, a glass of chilled water is served once you're seated.
Avocado, Egg White and Turkey Focaccia served with Salad in Oriental dressing, $14.95
M had the Avocado, Egg White and Turkey Focaccia served with a mixed salad in oriental dressing. I already had lunch but couldn't resist taking a few bites. It was an interesting sandwich - the egg white taking the place of mayo in adding some sort of moisture to the assemble. It helps that the focaccia itself was pretty aromatic and I loved how the avocado adds its signature creamy, almost buttery taste to the sandwich. The salad, which had a good mix of lettuce, tomatoes and arugula, was doused in an oriental dressing that was surprisingly refreshing and tasty. The price is somewhat steep for the portions, but M (and I) did thoroughly enjoy both the salad and sandwich. Besides, it's one of those few places with no service charge even though they actually provide it well. I'll be returning!
