Buri Tara
We figured throwing in a meal at an authentic Thai restaurant would allow us to go one step further in completing the dining landscape in Bangkok. In 5 days, we had been to a multitude of street stalls, popular local eateries one and two, foreign cuisine (Japanese), local ice-cream cafe/showroom, even fastfood (we actually made a decision to try kfc, and regretted sorely). It was time for decent dining, however kick ass street food may be.
Photos of interior:
So here we are at Buri Tara, an incredibly chic Thai restaurant overlooking the Chao Phraya River - perfect for chilling out with beer. It's apparently a local secret of sorts, the kind of place with more locals than farangs. I wouldn't know about this place if my friend hadn't let me in on the secret. And I couldn't resist sharing these photos of Buri Tara's interior, sourced here.
Som Tam with Crispy Pork, 150 Baht
The restaurant features a wide menu comprising both Thai and Western selections, but Thai was all we could think about. The som tam was great, though not significantly better than the one at Chatuchak, and also less spicy. The crispy pork was more chewy than crispy. Nevertheless, it was a refreshing salad and pretty addictive.
Green Curry with Beef, 180 Baht
The green curry was quite good, though the beef was tough and disappointing. I couldn't help thinking about the one I had in Hong Kong, which featured an equally good curry complete with succulent beef slices.
Fried Rice with Crab Meat, 100 Baht
Buri Tara also marks the end of my Bangkok posts. This trip has definitively confirmed my passion for Thai cuisine. I wish we had stayed longer, 5 days just isn't enough to try everything. But Bangkok is one place I'll definitely return to, if not for anything, at least for their kick ass street food!
